Man saved from aircraft wreck

The Oestermoed protection officers were at hand and pulled the pilot from the wreckage before it burst into flames.

A young man in his twenties was rescued from a light aircraft accident on Human Rights Day.

The plane crashed on the Oestermoed Farm, situated in Hekpoort.

On Tuesday afternoon Netcare 911 paramedics responded to callout to a light aircraft accident. Reports from the scene indicate that the trainee pilot was on a solo flight in a Cessna aircraft when he allegedly experienced engine problems.

The light aircraft then crash-landed on the Oestermoed farm. Fortunately, the Oestermoed protection officers were at hand and pulled the pilot from the wreckage before it burst into flames.

Reports indicated that this heroic action saved the pilot’s life.

Paramedics arrived at the scene and found that he had sustained moderate injuries. The patient was then treated at the scene before being transported to a nearby hospital for the care that he required.
