Details released of police officer who died in Robert Broom Drive crash

The officer was a detective at the Krugersdorp Police station and solved many serious cases

One of Krugersdorp’s most renowned police officers died in a motor vehicle incident on Robert Broom Drive near the intersection with Koedoe Road in Rant en Dal last night, 23 March.

Detective Warrant Officer Holder, who was a detective at the Krugersdorp police station was travelling on the road in his private vehicle at about 4.30pm.

His vehicle collided head-on with a palm tree in the middle of the centre median of the road. The front end of the vehicle was severely damaged by the impact.

Detective Warrant Officer Holder succumbed to his extensive injuries and was declared dead on scene by paramedics.

The cause of the incident is subject to investigation.

Major General Mateisi, the Krugersdorp and West Rand Cluster commander and Brigadier Baloyi, the Krugersdorp police station commander, visited the scene. Later they proceeded to Holder’s home to convey their condolences to his wife, daughter and the rest of his family.

Various emergency services personnel, from ER24, Help24, Netcare 911, and the West Rand District Fire and Rescue Service, were on scene to assist. Members of the Sector 3 Community Policing Forum closed off the scene with tape to keep spectators from entering it, and regulated traffic.

The section of the road was closed to traffic for more than 3 hours.

“Warrant Officer Holder was a dedicated investigator who achieved continued success in finalising house robbery and other serious cases,” said Mateisi. “May his soul rest in peace.”

Elderly woman’s killer finally convicted
In this case, detective Warrant Officer Holder secured a murder conviction for a man who killed an 83-year-old woman in Monument, Krugersdorp. The man received a 50-year prison sentence. Holder managed to link the accused to the crime, which he committed in 2011. On 5 September 2016, Morane was charged with murder. Two days later, he made a full confession of his crimes. Holder was extremely pleased to see the murderer being convicted after so many years.

Robber to serve 85 years

Andries Copper Khoza, a house-breaking and theft suspect, was sentenced in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court to 85 years imprisonment on five charges. The successful conviction follows after the accused committed the robberies in the Wentworth Park and Mindalore areas in 2012 and 2013.

The Krugersdorp Cluster Commander, Major General Mateisi applauded the good work done by Holder.“He worked with passion and dedication. A job well done by one of our own. May he continue to serve this organisation with pride and dignity.”

“The Krugersdorp Police management is very proud of Warrant Officer Holder for securing this sentence. He worked very hard and put many hours into this investigation. He gathered enough evidence and traced witnesses to compile a proper investigation,” said the Krugersdorp Police spokesperson, Sergeant Tshepiso Mashale.

Warrant Officer secures good conviction
In this case, detective Warrant Officer Holder secured two convictions by providing ample information regarding the case. Both convicts received prison sentances for house robbery and theft in Noordheuwel.
