Hekpoort head-on collision leaves one dead, one critically injured

They found an elderly man who tragically died on the scene due to the extensive injuries he sustained.

Late on Friday morning, 31 March, one person had to be airlifted to the nearest hospital after being involved in a head-on collision on the road heading towards to Magaliesberg in the Hekpoort area.

According to Mogale City Traffic Department it is believed that two vehicles collided head-on. A third vehicle was unable to stop and crashed into them. It is alleged that the driver of one of the vehicles, a bakkie, lost control of it.

The Netcare medical helicopter transported one patient to the nearest hospital.

Netcare 911 paramedics and the local Fire Department arrived on the scene, where they found that an elderly man had died on the scene due to the extensive injuries he sustained.

The driver of the Corsa bakkie, a female in her 30s, was still trapped in the wreckage with life-threatening injuries. The occupants of the third vehicle fortunately escaped injury.

Emergency personnel used the Jaws of Life and worked tirelessly for more than an hour to free the critically injured female from the wreckage. Paramedics stabilised her at the scene and then airlifted her by Netcare medical helicopter to a specialised hospital for the care that she required.
