It is National sibling Day!

The bond between siblings is extra special.

We love to hate them but can’t imagine our lives without them. So why not celebrate having a sibling (a brother or a sister), as today (10 April) is National Sibling Day!

This day is a day to honour your relationship with your sibling(s). The bond between siblings is extra special. They are life-long relationships that last from cradle to grave, and are usually the longest relationships of a person’s life – typically much longer than the relationship with a mother or father.

The highest recorded number of siblings born on the same day of the same month stands at five, and only one family in the world, the Cummins family, from the USA, has achieved this feat. Five of their seven children were born on 20 February in 1952, 1953, 1956, 1961 and 1966 respectively. The odds of this occurring are one in nearly 18 billion – more than the world’s entire population!

• According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the oldest family in the world is the Tweed family. The seven brothers and five sisters vary in age from 76 to 96 for a combined age of 1020.

How to celebrate today:

• Give your sibling a call

• Spend the day together

• Arrange a family day

• Do something special

• Tell them you love them

They say if you have a sister or a brother, you will always have a friend.
