Preschooler wins weekend away for six

Lina Smit Kritzinger, a renowned artist judged the hats and chose the most beautiful designs.

Megan Jurgens, a six-year-old Krugersdorper won a weekend away for six people at Magalies Park after she had beautifully decorated a hat during Krugersdorp Rotary Club’s hat decoration day.

She was among many other competitors who each won a R500 Key West Shopping Centre voucher to spend as they like.

The competition kicked off at Key West early on Saturday morning, 25 March and it had three categories – primary school, adult and high school.

Each competitor had to decorate a polystyrene hat with decorations donated by various local businesses.

“It was very interesting to see the different ideas community members had,” said Heather Sparg, president of the Rotary Club in Krugersdorp.

“There were beautiful beads, colourful ribbons, huge flowers and every other thing you could possibly put on a hat.”

“We were, however, very disappointed that the initiative wasn’t very well supported. People really missed out because those who were there had a lot of fun.”
