DC of the Week: Suspects break down wall to ransack shop

Once they were inside the shop, the suspects found the owner hiding behind the fridge.

Police arrested three suspects on Tuesday, 11 April after they allegedly broke down a spaza shop’s wall to gain access to, and rob, the shop.

The owner alleged that he and his brother were asleep in the bedroom section of their spaza shop when they suddenly heard a very loud banging sound. The brother realised it was the sound of the shop’s wall breaking and decided to hide his brother in the bedroom. He himself hid behind one of the shop’s fridges.

Three men armed with a single firearm broke down the shop wall and entered. Once they were inside the shop, they found the man hiding behind the fridge. They broke down the bedroom door and also found the younger brother. The suspects held the two at gunpoint while ransacking the shop. They took cash, two cellphones and airtime vouchers.

They then fled the scene on foot. The suspects didn’t fire any shots, but the one brother was assaulted and sustained head injuries.
