Company donates water tanks to Pangoville
"In the past we were sometimes left without water for more than five days. Now we have some security regarding this resource."
Residents of Pangoville, an informal settlement adjacent to Munsieville, received a welcome gift when Sunlight South Africa donated two Jojo tanks to them.
The Jojo tanks have a capacity of 5 000 litres each. Rainwater will be channelled to one of them through specialised gutters and the other one will be filled with municipal water to ensure that the 350 residents of the informal settlement always have clean water.
“This is a wonderful gift as we are sometimes left without water when the municipality upgrades the water pipelines,” said Hugo van Niekerk, manager of Pangoville. “In the past we were sometimes left without water for more than five days. Now we have some security regarding this resource,” said Hugo.

Elizabeth Mokwena, spokesperson for Sunlight said this donation is part of their #SunlightSavesWater campaign that not only focuses on giving communities a better cleaning product, but also ensuring that the most valuable resource on the planet is preserved.
“The projects also combats water wastage and shortages due to the drought such as the one we faced last year,” said Elizabeth.
Pangoville was nominated to receive the tanks because of their population size and need for water. The informal settlement has only six taps for more than 300 people.
“With a single day’s heavy rains, one of the tanks can fill up easily,” said Elizabeth.
She also said that this water can benefit the community. “If a drought hits, we will be able to provide water without even being on the premises. We want to stay in touch with the community, conserve municipal water and give them a sustainable resource. The tanks also have filtering systems that makes sure the water they save is clean.”
