All the information about the Hande vat vir Liefde workshop
This is what you need to bring on the day.
With the recent cold mornings and evenings catching us off guard and the wind slowly getting to us, the less fortunate of Krugersdorp have to face the unbearable while the rest of us sleep soundly.
The News team, in collaboration with the Amandel Aksie group from the Suiderlig church in Krugersdorp West, recently launched a blanket project aptly named Hande vat vir Liefde.
Many people do not have the privilege of sleeping in a warm bed under a cosy blanket during winter. Animals in shelters are also sometimes forgotten, and have to sleep in cold cages on cement floors at night.
As part of the project, a workshop will be presented during which the technique of making a knot blanket will be demonstrated. It is a special blanket made of polar fleece, or any other thick fabric. The whole community is invited to attend the workshop, which promises to be great fun, on 6 May.
It will be hosted at the Suiderlig church, on the corner of Gould and Herbert Streets in Krugersdorp West. The proceedings kick off at 10am.
What should I bring?
• Two 1,5m pieces of polar fleece material (or any other thick material), or a 3m piece
• A pair of scissors
• Pins
• A needle
• A quick unpick
• A ruler
• Piece of soap
The blankets that are made at the workshop will be considered your donation to the project. The community is also asked to donate any wool, polar fleece, any blankets (old or new) or money (if possible) towards the project.
