Lions Clubs fun day for the disabled

Each club was responsible for setting up activities and games for the disabled guests to participate in.

It’s the small things in life that matter.

The Lions Club recently held its annual Buddy Day. During this day various Lions Clubs hosted a fun day for disabled people.

The day started off with school learners volunteering to look after a ‘Buddy’ – is a disabled person from one of the various institutions in and around the West Rand. The school learners were then assigned to a buddy to assist them in the day’s activities.

The day kicked off at West Ridge High School and was certainly one for the books. The Lions Clubs involved were Krugersdorp, Helderkruin, Wilro Park, Roodepoort Host, Clearwater Cyber and Northcliff.

Each club was responsible for setting up activities and games for the disabled guests to participate in. This year the activities included colouring-in, beading, face-painting, fishing, bowling and cookie decorating.

Fishing was a one of the highlights of the day.

The day was, as always, a huge success and taught the school learners assisting their buddies that they should be patient and kind to those who seem different. The day also taught everyone involved that they should appreciate what they have.

The school learners are eager for next year’s day and cannot wait to meet their next “Buddy”.
