Local day care heats things up

Mogale City's Fire Brigade taught the children how they protect the city as part of the school’s term theme.

Approximately 75 toddlers from Disney Day Care were more than thrilled when they received a visit from some special guests on Friday 23 June.

It was none other than the Mogale City Fire Department, which taught the children some of the tricks of their trade.

The school chooses a theme for every term, and invites suitable guests to visit the school and show the children what they do.

“Last term it was the Easter Bunny that came to visit our school, and now we are focusing on ‘people who help us’. This is why we thought it best to expose them to the fire brigade and what it’s all about,” said Kathy Döhne, principal of the day care.

She also mentioned that the toddlers can expect a visit from the ambulance next term, as part of the theme.

“We want to stimulate and prepare them for Grade 1 on every possible level. As part of this stimulation we want to expose them to as many things as we can, not only to extend their knowledge, but also to extend their social interaction,” said Ilze Jansen van Vuuren, teacher and HOD of the Academic League.

According to Ilze, the toddlers had a ball with the fire brigade and are looking forward to the next special guests.
