R28 getaway fails as perpetrators flee into bush

Stolen property and a getaway vehicle were recovered following a high-speed pursuit that started at a Strubens Valley fast-food outlet.

A stolen cellphone was recovered after local security teams intercepted a getaway vehicle a short distance from Silverstar Casino on September 10 at 16:00.

Guardmax Protection Services sales manager Gerrie van Rooyen said they received a tip-off that another security company was in pursuit of the vehicle following a cellphone snatch at a fast-food restaurant in Strubens Valley.

“The perps were at that stage fleeing on Hendrik Potgieter Road towards Cradlestone Mall and our team gathered in different positions near Cradlestone and the Pinehaven intersection,” he said.

“They managed to advance onto the R28 towards Krugersdorp, and the vehicle was intercepted by the team, followed by the other security companies involved,” he added.

Van Rooyen said they fled into the bush near the R28 and N14 in the Steynsvlei area and evaded arrest despite searches by multiple teams.

He said the perpetrators’ vehicle and stolen items were handed over to police for further investigation.
