Dream big and win big by showcasing your talent
Recite a poem, sing a song, show us your dance moves, or tell a story ... make a video and post!
Attention high school learners.
During this winter holiday you can get a step closer to fulfilling your dreams by entering Afrikaans.com’s #droomgroot17 talent competition.
Afrikaans.com is an exciting new website that celebrates the language with all its unique tongues, twists and tales … and you can be part of it!
Get your creative juices flowing … be brave (second and third language speakers welcome!), showcase your unique talent and you could win R10 000, which we will contribute towards making your dream a reality.
Grade 8 to 12 learners are invited to be part of the action … as long as you do it in Afrikaans!
The clock starts ticking on 1 July and you have until 30 September to make your video and share it on social media, using the hashtag #droomgroot17
This is how it works:
Recite a poem, sing a song, show us your dance moves, or tell us a story … make a video and post! You can enter on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) using the hashtag #droomgroot17. Remember to tag Afrikaans.com!
The winner:
The three finalists will be chosen by an Afrikaans.com panel. They will then be asked to write a short motivation and tell us how the R10 000 will help them get their dream on track … for example: a guitar, a computer, a song or writing course, etc. Once the overall winner has been announced, Afrikaans.com will use the R10 000 on behalf of the winner and help him/ her tick off a wish on his/ her list.

More about Afrikaans.com’s school mural project:
• A community project aiming to inspire
At Afrikaans.com we believe that inspiration leads to aspiration and that a sense of identity and the ability to express create pride and self-worth. That is why we have launched this specific community project to inspire learners through murals. This mural project aims to highlight the unique use of Afrikaans at school.
• What does the mural art project entail?
The Afrikaans.com team paints one wall at each of the participating primary and secondary schools, and activate the campaign on social media with photographs and video material.
The high school murals tie up with the #droomgroot17 competition and high school learners from those schools are also invited to enter the competition #droomgroot17 on social media. However, the #droomgroot17 competition is not only restricted to these schools, it is open to all high school learners across South Africa.
At primary schools the murals inspire learners to use their imagination and read. The murals also instil a sense of pride in their school and their language. During the launch of the murals, learners have an opportunity to showcase some of their talents and the winning class at each of the participating primary schools receives a library in a box.
