Orchid man’s career blooms
Benson now sells up to 100 orchids a day and has three employees who help him with his tasks.
You might have seen him around – at your office, at a local restaurant or walking the streets of Krugersdorp. Yes, this is Benson Vikilahle, or better known as the Orchid Man.
Since Benson last spoke to the News in 2015, his flower-selling career has flourished. He used to sell orchids by walking many kilometres per day to and from hot spots such as the Veranda Coffee Shop in Kenmare and Trans Natal Glass on Voortrekker Road where he used to trade.

Back then his goal was to save money to buy a bakkie in order to expand his business and inspire others to rise above their circumstances and grow a better future.

On Friday, 30 June, he did just that when he bought himself a brand new bakkie for his orchid-selling business.
“I am so thankful for everyone who helped me through this journey.
I had the amazing privilege of decorating former Executive Mayor of Mogale City, Lynn Pannall’s office and cutting the grass at Kagiso Cemetery to help me raise the money for the bakkie,” he explained.
Benson now sells up to 100 orchids a day and has three employees who help him as he has extended his horizons by selling a variety of decorative flowers and including landscaping in his skill set. He now also sells orchids to clients as far as Pretoria, Durban and even Cape Town.
Since his last interaction with the News, Benson has fulfilled one of his biggest ambitions, which was to supply the whole of Krugersdorp with flowers. He now supplies countless restaurants, offices and homes with these beautiful flowers. The prices of the orchid range from R80 to R200 each.
