[FOLLOW UP] Maize truck overturns due to ‘mieliecious’ causes
A farmer might have lost his entire harvest after a truck overturned with his load.
Pinehaven — The truck that overturned at the R28/ N14 (Pinehaven) intersection yesterday (24 July) morning was carrying a load of maize.
Reports from the scene suggest the driver was coming down the steep hill on the R28 (past Silverstar) too fast and tried to turn left onto the slipway (towards the hospital) to avoid smashing into vehicles stationary at the busy intersection. But due to the speed it was travelling, the truck overturned at the intersection. Fortunately no other vehicles were involved in the early-morning crash.

Netcare 911 paramedics as well as other ambulance service personnel responded to the scene where the truck was obstructing both lanes coming from Cradlestone Mall in the direction of Kromdraai.
The truck driver was extricated from the wreckage and fortunately sustained only moderate injuries.
Krugersdorp Traffic Department officers blocked the road with cones and diverted traffic into one of the oncoming traffic lanes to ensure it kept moving.

West Rand District Municipality fire fighters assisted by sweeping the maize off the surface of the road onto the islands while municipal workers picked up bags full maize to help clean the road.
Police also assisted by taking the statements of witnesses to investigate the cause of the incident.
