Girls go clubbing for a good cause

Every year this committee makes a point of gathering certain products and donating them to an institution in need. This year they thought it best to spoil the old age home’s senior citizens with a heap of toiletries and an office revamp.

Five women from the Krugersdorp Golf Club’s Ladies Committee scored a hole-in-one in the heart of the SAVF’s (Suid-Afrikaanse Vroue Federasie) Môreglans Old Age Home when they paid a special visit.

Every year this committee makes a point of gathering certain products and donating them to an institution in need. This year they thought it best to spoil the old age home’s senior citizens on Friday, 18 August, with heaps of toiletries and an office revamp.

The toiletries included toothbrushes, toothpaste, body lotion, tissues, deodorants and soap, among other things. These donations will go a very long way as they will be distributed to the 95 residents at Môreglans.

“We have given to a lot of institutions in the past, and thought we’d approach some senior citizens this year. We contacted one of the nurses, Nurse Blossom Manetsi, and asked her what they needed. She informed us about their needs and we subsequently gathered everything from our members,” said Pam Koertzen, one of the committee members.

This year, roughly 40 golfing ladies contributed to this amazing cause, and when they saw Nurse Blossom’s office, they decided to revamp her office from top to bottom as well.

“We thought about what we, as women, can do for this institution and as part of this Mandela Day/Women’s Month project we decided to do a make-over in the office of one of the main nurses,” Pam said.

They didn’t just repaint her office – they also went to the trouble of covering all her files with new wrapping paper.

This golf club’s ladies division is also involved in various other small projects throughout the entire year, and always gives where they can.

“We really feel the need to give back to the community, and to do everything we can, where we can. It’s our privilege to have been able to help out these senior citizens,” said Leone Brandt, one of the other committee members.

Nurse Blossom also said that she’s very happy about her new office and all the wonderful things these women have done for them.
