Mogale faces water shortages as Infrastructure Department battles with 40 per cent vacancy rate
Mogale City water technicians are currently embroiled in a wage dispute with the municipality and have downed tools.
“The Mayor of Mogale City must address the water shortage in parts of upper Rangeview and Sugarbush Estate, where residents have been struggling with little or no water since last Thursday,” said Jade Miller, a DA councillor in Mogale City, in a recently released statement.
“The Mogale City Infrastructure Department is currently understaffed by 40 per cent. There is not enough capacity to ensure adequate resolution of water interruptions.
“Added to this, Mogale City water technicians are currently embroiled in a wage dispute with the municipality and have downed tools. These technicians have not been paid for overtime that they have worked,” Miller said in her statement.
She said the municipality is failing to ensure that residents get the services they deserve and failing to care for the men and women who work for it.

“When the ANC took over the municipality in July, they quickly reinstated the ghost workers in the Mayor’s Office. These ghost workers are cadres who cost the people of Mogale City R20 million a year despite not showing up for a day’s work. This money could rather have been re-routed to the infrastructure department which would have had a positive impact on Mogale City’s residents, especially the technicians who are not being paid.
“While the DA was in office, we began bringing about the change that Mogale City needs. The ANC is working hard to undo our progress and to ensure that their corruption and poor delivery can again go on unhindered.
She concluded by saying the ANC is ignoring the needs of the people by putting cadres first.
“We need total change, a new beginning in Mogale City.”
