Brace yourself for a hefty petrol price increase
Hefty price hike will effect every citizen, including taxi passengers as this time around, the fares will increase.
Motorists will have to dig deeper in their pockets for petrol and diesel from Wednesday, 6 September.
The price of octane petrol, including 93 and 95, will increase by 67 cents per litre. Diesel using motorists will cough up 44 cents per litre. Meanwhile paraffin consumers, will also be required to pay 49 cents a litre more due to the country’s ailing economy.
Department of Energy spokesperson, Robert Maake, said the weakening rand against major foreign currencies has contributed to this weighty hike.
“We advice motorists to always plan their trip and save as much fuel as they possibly can, they shouldn’t just drive around but plan their journey ahead – public transport can be used where necessary,” said Maake.
Speaking of public transport, taxi passengers will also be paying more. The fuel price hike will result in taxi fares hike as they are likely to increase by R5 maximum per single trip.
