[UPDATE] Deceased aircraft occupants identified

The aircraft was completely destroyed in the fire that broke out after the crash, with columns of smoke visible several kilometres away.

The light plane crash that happened on Sunday, 3 September, took the lives of Ben Laas, a pilot from Hartbeespoort and Annene le Roux, a student coordinator from the Eagle Air Flight School at Wonderboom Airport. Ben’s Cessna 172 aircraft allegedly hit some power lines in the Magaliesberg area near Hekpoort.

According to the News’ sister publication, Kormorant, which is distributed in Hartbeespoort, the crash took place between 11am and noon, after the Cessna had taken off from the Wonderboom Airport near Pretoria.
