[WATCH] Boltonia explosion leaves one dead

It is alleged that roughly 25 000 litres of oil caught fire, and subsequently left one dead.

Last night, 12 September, at about 10pm a huge explosion was heard by residents of Boltonia and surrounds.

According to Nico Kahts, manager of Emergency Management Services for the West Rand District Municipality, the explosion occurred at Majestic Oil Mills, an oil-processing company on Mould Street, Boltonia.

“We received the call at about 10.10pm, and three fire trucks were sent out in response. When they arrived on scene one of the oil tanks was still on fire,” he explained.

It is alleged that roughly 25 000 litres of oil caught fire, and left one person dead.

The West Rand Fire Department, local police and emergency services were on scene. The cause of the incident is not yet known, but further investigations will be done.

The News approached Majestic Oil Mills for comment, but was denied any feedback about the incident.
