An astounding total of 5 280 learners entered this competition. Only the best teams from each school were selected to participate in the district competition.

On Tuesday, 12 September, the annual Economic and Management Science (EMS) Olympiad for the Gauteng West district was held at Hoërskool Jan de Klerk – and 180 learners used their brain power to conquer the given questions.

According to Elmien le Roux, district subject adviser for EMS, an astounding total of 5 280 learners entered this competition. Only the best teams from each school were selected to partake in the following circuit competitions.

After five circuit competitions, 20 teams (consisting of three learners each) from each grade were selected to participate in the district competition. The winners of the district competition, accompanied by a development team, will then represent Gauteng West when they compete against 15 other districts in their respective grades.

The winners are as follows:

Grade 7: Monument Primary School

• Zubair Laher

• Ajeet Naharay

• Raymond Pollet

Grade 8: Krugersdorp High School

• Kaden Gray

• Tamar Ngwira

• Nozipho Mbonambi

Grade 9: Krugersdorp High School

• Palesa Modise

• Eric de Gouveia

• Boithuso Phale

Elmien is really proud of these learners and trusts that they will give their all when competing against the other districts.
