How about some boerewors and beans for Braai Day?

Looking to do something different around the braai this public holiday?

In South Africa, National Heritage Day is a day when we can get together and celebrate our rich heritage by uniting around fires and enjoying some delicious food.

What better way is there to enjoy the long weekend than with beans and boerewors and a braai with friends and family? As South Africans, we all know that fires and good food mean celebrations.

Pouyoukas Foods will make your day even better with this amazing mixed bean salad.

It contains the Pouyoukas 5 bean mix and Pouyoukas chickpeas. These are filling and nutritious and go down very well with a braai.

The bean salad lasts for ages and can be enjoyed the whole week long – if there is any leftover of course!

Here’s how you make this delicious Pouyoukas mixed bean salad:

Ingredients:

250ml Pouyoukas 5-bean mix, prepared as per pack instructions

250ml Pouyoukas chickpeas, prepared as per pack instructions

30ml fresh chopped coriander leaves

1 red pepper, deseeded and chopped

125ml crumbled feta cheese

Dressing:

60ml red wine vinegar

30ml lemon juice

½ red onion, finely chopped

1 clove garlic, finely minced

2,5ml dried oregano

30ml sugar

Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Method:

Stir together all the dressing ingredients and set aside. In a large bowl, combine the beans, chickpeas and red pepper.

Pour dressing over the salad ingredients and stir gently to coat. Cover, refrigerate and allow the salad to marinate for at least 1 hour. Remove from the fridge, add feta cheese and chopped coriander and stir to combine. Season to taste with salt and pepper and enjoy!

Have a great Heritage Day, Krugersdorp!
