Just in: Jackpot winner witnesses fatal bike crash
Olckerse was on her way home from Silverstar with R80k in her pocket when she saw a fatal bike accident happen in front of her.
“I was at Silverstar Casino and had hit the jackpot which I planned to spend on my children,” said Antoinette Olckerse, a resident of Randfontein who witnessed the horrific biker accident on Saturday night, 7 October. “I was heading back home and was travelling on the R28, going uphill towards Mount Usambara in the right-hand lane when I saw a single headlight in the side mirror.”

To her great surprise, the headlight grew brighter much sooner than she anticipated and with a great roar, a motorcycle came flying past her on the right.
“When the motorcyclist pulled in front of me, the bike began to wobble and suddenly the driver lost all control of it. The bike hit the barrier at a tremendous speed and the biker flew off.”
“I didn’t miss all of the flying parts though. It sounded like a hailstorm as parts hit the windscreen and the body of my car. Luckily I missed the bike. The biker was lying about 150 metres from the bike.”
She stopped a few metres away from the bike and ran back towards the scene of the accident. Another biker, presumably from the same club as the one who had just crashed, had already stopped and was directing traffic into the other lane.

“I tried speaking to him, but he pointed me in the direction of a third biker. It seems like they were travelling in a group. I asked how I could help. I left the scene soon after.
“You don’t expect something like this to happen in front of you, especially not on a night when you’re actually celebrating something good.”
Olckerse is still traumatised by the experience and hopes that her statement will clarify what happened that night.
The biker was declared dead by paramedics later that evening. His identity is known to the News, but to give his family time to process what has happened, it will not be made public yet. He leaves a wife and three children.
