Varsity revolutionalises learning

An exciting way to learn – ideal for the working class.

For members of the working class who want to improve their skills, distance learning has been the only way of learning part-time, until now.

A popular Johannesburg university is now offering online degree programmes ideal for full-time employees who want to acquire or add to their qualifications. Local young people expressed their excitement on the new programmes.

Sipho Mbuli of Krugersdorp’s CBD said this is the best news he has heard this year, especially in the education sector.

“I can’t believe that the modules on offer are completely attainable online – now I can focus on going to work every day and use my tablet after hours to switch to my studies, and this way I can complete my degree sooner than if I was a part-time student,” said Sipho.

The online degree programmes currently offered are: a Master of Public Management and Governance, a Master of Education in Information and Communication Technology and a Master of Public Health. All these programmes can be completed in two years, in a seven-week per module format. Lihle Mdlalose, a 29-year-old nurse, wants to enquire more about the Public Health programme and she says she will then take it from there. This programme is suitable for health professionals like Lihle, as it offers analytical and management competencies and solutions to public health challenges.

“The best part is the chance to go through each module at my own pace. I never considered going to varsity until now,” said Lihle.

People who are interested can now enrol to be the first group of students for January next year.
