During the two sessions, roughly 160 stakeholders in the agricultural industry devoted their immediate and focused attention to some burning issues which the industry is currently facing.

Some of the themes included the alleviation of the current agricultural water crisis in South Africa, labour and related issues, value chain integration, strategy formulation and the key adapters to a changing environment.

According to Thea Liebenberg, AgriSA’s public relations officer, various farmers had the opportunity to voice any new ideas through interactive appliances. During the congress a new president and deputy presidents were elected and announced for the next term.

“It was a huge success – we were able to put various important issues on the table such as shale gas, water and other sources, then we concluded with various possible strategies. We are now ready to carry out what we have discussed,” Omri van Zyl, executive director of AgriSA, said.
