Yesterday afternoon, a man believed to be in his 20s was left critically injured when he rear-ended a truck while driving his bakkie on Luipaard Street in Krugersdorp.

When ER24 paramedics, along with other services, arrived on scene, they found both the bakkie and light motor vehicle on the side of the road. According to Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson, the driver of the bakkie was found inside the vehicle while the driver of the truck was found walking around on the scene.

The man was extricated from the vehicle and treated for his injuries before he was transported to Lenmed Randfontein for further treatment.

Unfortunately, after a short time in hospital, the man’s condition deteriorated and he was later airlifted by the ER24 Oneplan Helicopter to a private hospital in Johannesburg for urgent treatment.

The driver of the truck was assessed and found to have escaped injury.

Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
