In Pictures: Proteas grow at Curro
New friends and new possibilities for schools after tornado rips one apart,
Curro Krugersdorp welcomed 596 children, and thus families, from Laerskool Protearif.
As many nervous feet stepped onto the school campus, they were cordially welcomed by Curro Krugersdorp staff, parents and learners. Each child also received a small welcome gift.
“When the news of the damage at Laerskool Protearif reached our school, the management of Curro Krugersdorp decided that it needed to extend a helping hand,” said Annemarie Lombard, Executive Head of Curro.

After consulting with the school parent body, Annemarie contacted Donna Lourens, the principal at Laerskool Protearif, and offered to accommodate his learners until the end of the year at Curro Krugersdorp.
Curro Krugersdorp Primary School will be accommodating Grades 1 to 3 and Curro Krugersdorp High School will accommodate Grades 4 to 7.
The learners will be educated in unoccupied classrooms on the Curro campus, in their own classes by their own teachers.
This will allow for minimum disruption to the academic programmes of both schools.
In a Facebook post, Curro quoted the words of Margaret Mead: “Never believe that a few caring people can’t change the world. For, indeed, that’s all who ever have.”
Here are some pictures of the welcoming of the Proties at Curro:

The Protearif learners have their own classes and won’t be in the same classes as the Curro learners.
