A 25-year-old suspect was arrested in Kagiso on Sunday, 22 October at about noon, after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend and also caused malicious damage to her cellphone.
The complainant said that she was walking down the street with the suspect when an argument started.
“My boyfriend demanded I hand over my phone. When I refused, he struck me on my head with a hammer,” said the complainant in her statement.
He went further, and destroyed the complainant’s phone. She sustained an open wound to the head. She went to hospital and later laid charges against her boyfriend. The suspect was apprehended and searched within an hour.

He was taken to Kagiso Police Station where a case docket of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, malicious damage to property and domestic violence was registered. He appeared briefly today in the Kagiso Magistrates’ Court and was remanded in custody for a bail application.
