Grown man scared of his neighbourhood
“These men rushed in like wild dogs, stealing my TV despite me being in the house.”
Oscar Mabaso has been living in Mindalore for 11 years and his house had never been broken into. But this all changed on Wednesday, 24 October, when three men stormed into his yard in Barend Street while he was standing at the door looking out in broad daylight.
“These men rushed in like wild dogs, stealing my TV despite me being in the house,” Mabaso said.

“When they came through the gate, I yelled “Call the police” to my son, and ran to the back door. My son locked his bedroom door and called the police.”
The men were armed and effortlessly picked up the LCD flat screen TV that’s less than four months old and not insured.
“I watched from the backyard how they calmly moved through my house, taking whatever they wanted. They also tried to take the microwave, but the hole through which the plug went was too small and they failed.”
Mabaso said he doesn’t know why the street he lives in has suddenly become a target for robbers.
“Suspects broke several windows at our neighbour’s house trying to gain access, but failed. The resident is an elderly woman and she wouldn’t have stood a chance against them. Up the road they broke into another person’s house and stole everything.”
He said that he is so scared now because if he’s a grown man and the men didn’t even flinch, he knows that they are both relentless and experienced criminals.
