Heroes wow children at crèche
"The highlight of the event was the Jaws of Life demonstration when the little ones could see how easily the specialised equipment can cut through metal."
Career day at the Little Anointed Ones crèche is always fun, especially when Krugersdorp’s heroes in red visit them. On Thursday, 26 October emergency services personnel went to the crèche to teach the children what it takes to become a saviour of people.
Netcare 911 paramedics showed the children their response car and the rescue unit team showed them how the medical equipment is used. “They oohed and aahed and wowed as the teams showed off their unique and specialised skills,” said Nick Dollman, spokesperson for Netcare 911.
The team also brought along a fire truck in which the children could sit. “The highlight of the event was the Jaws of Life demonstration when the little ones could see how easily the specialised equipment can cut through metal,” said Nick. Lana Bruwer, owner of the crèche said that it wasn’t just special because the specialised teams came to them, but the way they treated the children was jaw-dropping.
“They were compassionate, attentive, caring and loving,” said Lana.
“They taught them so well, and the children haven’t stopped talking about the experience since. Now, all of them want to become paramedics.” The children also received paper hats that resemble that of the firemen they had just met.
