Women targeting men in pubs

Male residents in the West Rand Cluster should be vigilant when approached in this manner.

The West Rand Cluster Police are warning members of the public of a new scam which involves women robbing men after their night out.

“The modus operandi entails that males, at pubs and other drinking places, are the targeted by one or two women, who engage in conversation and later request transport home,” said Captain Appel Ernst, spokesperson of the West Rand Cluster.

“The male victim at some stage consumes an alcoholic beverage during this interaction, after which he allegedly falls asleep. On waking up he then discovers his belongings were stolen.”

A new modus operandi in thefts has been identified and the communities in the West Rand Cluster should be aware of this trend, in order to steer clear of becoming victims.

The areas where incidents of this nature have been reported are Carletonville, Fochville and Kagiso. Incidents mostly happens on Fridays between midnight and 4am. The victims lose all personal belongings and their vehicles as a result of this crime.

“We believe that prevention is better than cure, therefore we need to sensitise our community about trends that are escalating,” said the Cluster Commander, Major General Anna Mateisi.
