New tower to accommodate women

After three months of going on their knees, begging, urging and knocking on countless doors, the founders' prayers have finally been answered.

It has been approximately three months since the women at the Tower of Life shelter were urged to seek alternative accommodation while the founders, Melodie van Brakel, Gert Jonker and Dominee Anton Mieny made it their priority to find a property where these women and their children can find refuge and safety.

After three months of going on their knees, begging, urging and knocking on countless doors, the founders are relieved to announce that they have finally signed a lease agreement for a beautiful property located at 051 Burger Street.

According to Melodie, this followed after the plight of homeless and destitute women had almost no effect on the community which forced many women and children to sleep on the streets at night.

After a month of no success, Melodie and Gert even hosted an urgent meeting – necessitated by the unfortunate situation – to discuss the overall homelessness issue currently facing Mogale City. Despite little interest and a number of challenges, the three founders still didn’t give up and remained determined.

“This is once again a huge leap of faith as we have no formal funding in place. Our budget for this new shelter is approximately R40 000 per month, and we are trusting the Lord for His provision,” Melodie said.

The shelter will be called Tower of Life Women’s Shelter and will serve as an emergency overnight shelter for women and their children.

“This is a community project for the people of Krugersdorp and we are requesting the community to become involved,” the founders said.

The shelter will officially open on Monday, 27 November. However, they are still in need of all kinds of household furniture and household items.

A Prayer and Dedication gathering will be held at the new shelter this Sunday, 26 November at 7pm. For more information, feel free to contact Melodie on 082 459 5747, Gert on 082 900 7832 or Anton on 083 654 0806.
