Illegal miners stoned to death

The two men were allegedly illegal miners.

At approximately 6.30pm Tuesday, 28 November, two Kagiso residents were stoned to death near Bhongweni in Randfontein.

The two men, aged 33 and 38 respectively, were allegedly on their way to continue their illegal mining activities at Bhongweni, when they were confronted by unknown suspects. They were subsequently stoned, and died on the scene.

According to Captain Appel Ernst, West Rand Police spokesperson, this is the fourth incident of illegal miners being killed due to fights within the illegal mining sphere.

“We urgently need assistance to curb these murders. Anyone with information can call the Randfontein Police on 011 767 2300” said the Randfontein station commander, Brigadier Mashole Jacob Manamela.
