Aids awareness this December
GinU organisation will commemorate Aids, nine days after World Aids Day, as they said December is Aids awareness month.
The Girl I Need You (GinU) organisation will be spreading HIV/ Aids awareness at the taxi rank in Extension 12 on 9 December, from 11am to 2pm. The awareness campaign will be followed by entertainment.
The event will deal with issues faced by people who are affected by and infected with HIV and Aids. With the 16 Days of Activism campaign in full swing, the event aims to focus on educating mostly women and girls, as the highest rate of new infections occurs in females between 15 and 24 years of age.
Vision Bearer Ntibi Papa said GinU’s main vision is concentrated on women of different ages, races and backgrounds from all corners of the world, as people from all these backgrounds live on the West Rand.
“Realising the struggles women and girl children face daily in our country, we decided to create a platform where women can meet, share their life’s experiences, and teach one another,” said Ntibi.
Having noticed that people are still dying because of HIV and Aids, GinU believes that it’s both fitting and relevant that they raise awareness about this chronic disease in their communities.
“People die because they lack knowledge. It is vital that we continue to educate, reach out and prevent the spread of this disease. We have therefore organised an awareness and candle light service for our community,” concluded Ntibi.
People interested in attending the event are urged to bring their own seating.
