Cradle of Humankind welcomes the elderly

On this day approximately 20 senior citizens from as far afield as Toekomsrus in Randfontein, Kagiso and Munsieville were welcomed at Maropeng with a delightful lunch.

Being trapped in between four walls for too long not only has the power to break one’s spirit, but it can also prevent one from living life to the fullest.

Luckily Tiny Sebiloane, Mogale City Local Municipality Customer Care Officer, understands this.

Tiny takes care of all Mogale City’s underprivileged elderly and orphans. For the past four years she has taken it upon herself to genuinely spoil a group of senior citizens by taking them out for a Christmas lunch.

Even though they have been visiting Silverstar for the past three years, she thought it best to spice things up this year by taking them to the Cradle of Humankind.

“I wanted to take them on a new adventure, to explore. The Cradle of Humankind is right on their doorstep, and most of them had never visited it. All local residents should have the opportunity to visit the Cradle at least once in their lives,” she said.

Thereafter they were taken to the Sterkfontein Caves to learn more about evolution. The group was filled with laughter and excitement all the way.

“Let the elderly not perish before seeing the caves. It’s on their doorstep which means it’s a must-see,” she said.

Tiny would like to drive the initiative towards local churches and schools in order for them to have the opportunity to explore one of the most popular tourist attractions in South Africa as well.
