Needy children showered with gifts

The day saw lots of children eating, drinking, dancing, singing and jumping for joy with the help of a few ‘Christmas angels’.

Recently Muldersdrift was serenaded with the most beautiful sound of children’s laughter – laughter so pure and true, one simply couldn’t deny their fulfilled and grateful hearts.

These were the children from a small local pre-school who, on Friday, 1 December, celebrated their first-ever Christmas party.

Thoriso Pre-School was established earlier in January this year by its principal, Linda Ngoma and mainly serves the underprivileged children of Muldersdrift and surroundings, especially those living in informal settlements.

The day saw lots of children eating, drinking, dancing, singing and jumping for joy with the help of a few ‘Christmas angels’ who put in their time, money and effort to ensure an unforgettable party for them.

“I live in the area, and regularly drive past this school. One day I just decided to pull up and see what it was all about. That’s when I decided that I would really like to do something for them,” organiser Audrey McCormack said.

She subsequently thought it best to host a Christmas party and invited various community members to help her with the project.

The donations ensured that each child received a gift, soft toys, sweets, cold drink, food, ice lollies and plastic bottles among many other things.

“Our aim was to help the children who have nothing. They were really overwhelmed by the day’s proceedings, and I would most definitely like to continue assisting where I can,” Audrey said.

Even though the pre-school is currently based on the premises of a local church, Linda would like the school to grow, develop and expand over time.

Linda and Audrey would also like to thank all the sponsors who contributed to the day in any way.

“The children were ecstatic because for a lot of them, this is the only Christmas celebration they will have for the year,” they concluded.
