Wrestler challenges school to a duel

A number of fans gathered around the ring and witnessed both parties fight for one thing only – a festive Christmas.

And in the left-hand corner, weighing in at a few hundred kilograms and standing much taller are none other than almost 300 bold, fierce and enthusiastic children from the West Rand School for Disabled Children.

On Thursday, 30 November, a number of fans gathered around the ring to witness both parties fighting for one thing only – a festive Christmas.

For the first year ever, these learners not only had the opportunity to learn a few tricks of the trade from Freddie Harmse (Mr Wrestling) and Zelda Haak (Professional Body Builder, diva and upcoming wrestler) but they also had the opportunity to celebrate an early Christmas with them.

“It’s such a pleasure to witness the joy on these children’s faces because we are passionate about them. We are honoured to have been chosen to spend the day with West Rand School,” the entertaining Freddie and Zelda said.

In awe, the learners received their festive gifts from Santa Claus and subsequently enjoyed the party with some delicious eats and treats. The learners were also surprised with both a talented face-painter as well as a balloon artist.

“The day was a huge success thanks to everyone who did their part. The children were beside themselves with happiness, and the weather was perfect. It’s really hard to choose who enjoyed it more – us or the learners,” Charmaine Gaisford said.

Needless to say, when they fought for a festive Christmas, both parties won.
