The beautiful gift of life
Four mothers were more than thrilled to share a bit more about the newest addition to their families that were brought into the world on Christmas Day.
As most of Krugersdorp was unwrapping their Christmas presents, many expectant mothers were presented with their biggest gift yet – the gift of a new life.
On Monday, 25 December 26 bundles of joy were welcomed into the world at various local hospitals, including Netcare Krugersdorp, Dr Yusuf Dadoo and Leratong. They represent only a fraction of the 389 babies that were born in public healthcare facilities throughout Gauteng on Christmas Day.

A mothers at Leratong Hospital was one of only six in the entire province to have given birth to a set of twins.
Among Dr Yusuf Dadoo’s moms was Havemercy Nhema who gave birth to the hospital’s heaviest baby of the year. Her bouncing baby boy, Everjoy Jongwe weighed an astonishing 5,6 kilograms at birth, which is a huge achievement, according to Havemercy. Even though she had no option but to undergo an emergency Caesarean section (C section), she was proud to introduce her newborn to her three older children.

Another mom, Mary Mokgatlha, who was also admitted to Yusuf Dadoo experienced a rocky path that eventually led to the birth of her sixth child – Rabaone. According to Mary she had to deliver her youngest baby girl in her home in Magaliesburg due to the ambulance not arriving in time.
“I wasn’t scared at all because I have given birth to five other babies. I knew that everything was going to be alright,” she said.
After being admitted to hospital the 3,6 kilogram baby was declared healthy.

A third mother, Precious Rinyau, gave birth to her third child in the early hours of Christmas Day. Her baby girl, Anzania, weighed 2,7 kilograms and was delivered by Dr Sengo. Precious also spoke about her strange craving for sand during her pregnancy.
“Whenever I felt dizzy I craved sand. It didn’t cause any harm, in fact, I felt a whole lot better after having eaten some,” she said laughingly.
In another part of town, Netcare Krugersdorp Hospital saw Evelyn Chirindza give birth to her second child, Jamila. This healthy baby girl was born at about 7.10am and weighed 3,3 kilograms. Evelyn added that she is proud to have an excited father and four-year-old brother awaiting Jamila’s arrival at home.

“I am greatly blessed by her arrival as I have lost my mother earlier in 2017. Even though she was taken away from us, we were still given a healthy, beautiful baby girl,” Evelyn said.
Each of these mothers subsequently experienced a one-of-a-kind Christmas and will never forget the year they were gifted the beautiful gift of life.
