Attackers steal car and firearm on New Year’s Day
They took the vehicle to a local car wash.
After the West Rand Flying Squad had received a call from a distressed victim, they were surprised to track his vehicle to a local car wash where the three alleged attackers were waiting for the vehicle to be cleaned.
The complainant was allegedly parking his vehicle in Rietvallei on New Year’s Day when three men appeared.
They manhandled and overpowered him, searched him and took his licensed firearm from his waist.

The victim fled, leaving his vehicle behind. The attackers drove off in it. The victim contacted the police who later found the suspects at the car wash, still in possession of the victim’s vehicle. The suspects, however, denied taking the firearm. Despite their denial, the police arrested them and charged them with unlawful possession of a vehicle and theft of a firearm.
They were detained at Kagiso Police Station where a case docket was opened. All three suspects are expected to appear briefly in court soon.
