DA comments on new township in town
The DA recently said "housing and therefore a proposed development of this nature should be welcomed".
Mogale City Local Municipality, in conjunction with Metroplan town planners, is planning to build 364 housing units on an empty plot next to the Krugersdorp Correctional Services premises.
The development is believed to be low-cost housing, in the form of blocks of flats, three storeys high, with underground parking.
The DA in Krugersdorp recently sent out a press release stating that the city is indeed in need of “housing and therefore a proposed development of this nature should be welcomed”.
Alan Fuchs, DA Constituency Head of Mogale City said the creation of a township is the first step in a long process that allows residents who are impacted to provide comments or objections.
“These comments or objections need to be taken into account when the council decides whether to approve the application or to decline it,” said Fuchs.
He said it is not helpful if comments are based on broad statements without evidence to back them up or objections are spurious and based on emotion rather than fact.
“What is particularly important is to ensure that the existing infrastructure can cope, and if not, the council must indicate what additional infrastructure will be provided. In addition, a traffic study must be carried out to ensure that the roads infrastructure will be able to sustain the additional traffic entering and exiting the development. Finally, residents must ensure that their residential amenities will not be impacted negatively, for example, their view being blocked by three storey buildings or the noise from the development impacting on the surrounding area. Residents must therefore satisfy themselves that the operational management of the development, once complete, will be carried out professionally.”

The best way to substantiate any claims would be to hire a private town/ city planner who would produce specific information substantiating your objection in a formal report.
The report needs to be sent to the Mogale City Municipal offices: 1st Floor, Furn City Building, corner Human and Monument Streets/ PO Box 94, Krugersdorp, 1740, and Metroplan: 96 Rauch Avenue, Georgeville, Pretoria/ PO Box 916, Groenkloof, 0027.
