Mbalula keeps his promise – bulldozes bordello

This will not be the last house to be demolished as Minister promises more to come.

National Police Minister, Fikile Mbalula, made drastic changes to the management of the police on the West Rand and saw to it that suspected drug houses and bordellos were bulldozed as part of his strategic plan to intervene in the fight against drugs in Krugersdorp.

Mbalula asked the communities of Krugersdorp, Kagiso and Munsieville for five days to come up with a plan to combat drugs in the area and it seems as if he has fulfilled his promise. This formed part of the #KrugersdorpWarOnDrugs saga that played off on Monday, 22 January, when community members protested vigorously against the drug dealers in the area.

He replaced the station commanders of Kagiso and Krugersdorp Police Stations as well as the cluster commander of the West Rand. He said the following on Twitter:

“WATCH: On the video replied to I introduce the Cluster Commander and Station Commanders Kagiso. The people asked for changes and we responded. We must inspire confidence in the people so they don’t take law into their own hands #OperationFielaII”

Although the replacement of these commanders comes as a welcome change in the eyes of the public, the Community Police Forum (CPF) of Krugersdorp believes this will not have much of an impact on the eradication of corrupt cops as they believe many officers are still knee-deep in cahoots with the drug lords of the city.

“The real culprits, the few officers who are in bed with the criminals, remain untouched and roam free on the West Rand and we want the Minister to remove them,” said Gert Jonker, chairman of the CPF.

Jonker also said that he was dismayed by Mbalula’s Tweet after his visit, because he believed the “… entry suggests that the former Cluster Commander of the West Rand Police Cluster and the former Station Commanders of SAPS Krugersdorp and SAPS Kagiso were ‘rotten cops’ who were ‘in the pockets of criminals’, thus their ‘removal’ “.

Mbalula will nonetheless continue to flatten identified drug houses and bordellos to ensure that Krugersdorp is cleansed of its criminal elements.
