‘We care for the mobility of our citizens’
Mayor Lipudi said one of the City's responsibilities is to maintain road infrastructure in the city.
Potholes are a nuisance to road users and destroy the road surface, so the Executive Mayor, councillor Patrick Naga Lipudi, rolled up his sleeves and embarked on a rigorous programme to repair potholes around Kagiso.
The Mayor, together with the Member of the Mayoral Committee responsible for Finance, councillor Norman Sedumedi, joined members of MMT in Kagiso, in a pothole maintenance programme. The continuous recent rains have contributed to the high number of potholes in the area.
MMT is a company commissioned by the Mogale City Local Municipality to repair potholes and reseal road surfaces. Mayor Lipudi said one of the City’s responsibilities is to maintain road infrastructure in the city.
“We are well aware that the recent rain has caused damage to our roads and we are fixing these potholes as quickly as we can, because we will see them soon developing into trenches if we don’t act now. That on its own will cause harm to the road users. We are fixing these potholes to create an economically viable city wherein the community can use our roads with ease and without any danger,” Councillor Lipudi said.
The two councillors later joined the members of the Nyaope Phansi Campaign on a drug awareness programme at the Sonap Taxi Rank, also in Kagiso, where a drug awareness campaign was in full swing.
Mayor Lipudi addressed the audience and pleaded with the community to work closely with members of the organisation to deal with drug abuse, and more so, Nyaope.
He said Nyaope is slowly becoming one of the deadly killers of our young people.
