Mogale leadership optimistic after two-day Lekgotla
The Mayor said that it is desirable that the municipality, in building a great city, should have a strong foundation.
The Executive Mayor of Mogale City Local Municipality, Patrick Naga Lipudi, and his team are optimistic about the future after concluding an intensive two-day lekgotla at the Maropeng Visitors’ Centre.
The meeting was attended by the council Speaker and Chief Whip, a number of mayoral committee members, the municipal manager and his senior management team, provincial Treasury representatives, chairpersons of both the Finance and Performance Audit Committees and internal stakeholders (which are the second layer of management) as well as several labour representatives.
It was preceded by a day-long Mayoral Committee meeting on Wednesday, 24 January, which took decisions about the issues emanating from the meeting with Minister of Police, Fikile Mbalula, community leaders and other stakeholders after the community protest action against drug peddling, human trafficking and other social ills.
Opening the meeting, the Mayor Lipudi said, “The people of Mogale City have made it clear in their interaction with the authentic leaders of society that they want an institution that works, which they can trust to take them out of the vice grip of poverty, inequality and unemployment. We have been charged by history to be at the forefront of helping that dream to manifest, working hard to build on gains made by the democratic state led by the African National Congress since 1994.”
The leadership has laid the plans for the state of the city address and the lekgotla also outlined the tasks that should be tackled by the municipality in the short-, medium- and long-term, which will be shared with Council.
The Mayor said that it is desirable that the municipality, in building a great city, should have a strong foundation.
“In this Centenary of Nelson Mandela, we have to close the gap that we have opened for those intent on destroying the national transformation project of social cohesion and reconciliation that our world icon started. We must not make room for racists and xenophobes, just as we must not open our city for unbridled drug peddling and human trafficking, car hijackings, murder and crime in general. We must be decisive without being populist and ensure that our interventions are sustainable.”
The leadership came out in high spirits and is convinced that the municipality is on track to deliver on the mandate given by the community of Mogale City, which is to serve all citizens of Mogale City with honour and humility as was demonstrated by our icon and first democratically elected President of South Africa, the Honourable Nelson Mandela.
