Water thieves get arrested yet Mogale cannot even fix their own leaks

Anna Rossouw, a resident of Maasdorp Street in Burgershoop, is infuriated by the fact that people were arrested for “stealing water” to take to Cape Town because it wastes the taxpayers’ money, while the local municipality has not even fixed the water leak she reported months ago.
Rossouw first reported the leak late last year. “I went to the municipality and all I got was a rude man telling me that it’s a sewage spill and not clean water,” Rossouw said. “But even if it was sewage it’s their responsibility to fix it nonetheless.”

The water spilling through a crack in the tar road does not seem to be sewage. It does not smell and there is no foam, froth or foreign objects running with the water.
“I think it’s a broken underground pipe that hasn’t been fixed.”
Trudie Naudé, ward councillor for the area, said she too has reported the incident to the municipality multiple times, but to no avail.

Rossouw called on the municipality to fix the leak to ensure that Krugersdorp does not run out of water like Cape Town soon will.
Executive Mayor of Mogale City, Patrick Naga Lipudi, said he was not aware of the problem.
“I had no idea the problem existed, but now that I know, I’ll make sure something is done about it. We’ll attend to it immediately,” Lipudi told the News.
