Cash, car or cruise?

Elsie Vivier was one of 9 000 entries countrywide and couldn't believe her luck.

A woman from Potchefstroom did not walk away with Lombard Tyres’ Cash, Car or Cruise prize – instead, she chose to drive away in her brand new Kia Picanto after she won the competition fair and square.

Elsie Vivier was one of 9 000 entries countrywide and could not believe her luck.

“I’m completely baffled and speechless,” she said after the key she chose slid into the car’s keyhole with ease.

Of the 23 finalists who were selected for the lucky draw, five did not pitch up, ensuring that those who did had a better chance of winning.

The finalists were asked to pick a number and then in the order of the numbers were given a chance to pick a box containing a key.

They then had the chance to test whether that key fitted the car, with the person holding the one that fitted winning the prize.

One after the other, the finalists walked, nerves wrecked, up to the vehicle and tested their keys.

Elsie was the second last finalist and with no effort at all her key slid into the keyhole and the door popped open.

She smiled and when asked if she would like the car, cash or cruise … she chose the car.

Sean Kruger, managing director of Lombard Tyres, handed the keys to her and she drove off.

“It’s important to us to give back to the community whose undying devotion we have become accustomed to,” Sean said.

It was the fifth competition of its sorts and Lombard Tyres is looking forward to the next one.
