Mayor strengthens relationship with senior citizens
“We are so grateful to the Mayor for being supportive of us and listening to our call, and most importantly, being there when we need him".
Mogale City’s Executive Mayor, Councillor Naga Patrick Lipudi, strengthened the relationship with the Mogale City Golden Oldies at a glittering function held at Maropeng in the Cradle of Humankind.
The event was punctuated by incessant rain, but this did not prevent the energetic oldies from attending.
The Maropeng Interpretation Centre management also jumped on the bandwagon when they promised to support and be part of the Club’s programmes. The oldies went on the underground boat tour and were treated to a sumptuous meal at the Tumulus restaurant after the festivities.
“Mogale City has a very long and rich history of working with senior citizens’ clubs. We really appreciate the fact that the elderly came before us and need to take good care of them, because I believe that a society that does not look after its senior citizens is doomed.
“We started this process in Kagiso yesterday, where we celebrated Valentine’s Day with more than 300 senior citizens. Today we are excited to be entering into a partnership with this non-governmental organisation. The partnership will assist us to extend all the programmes that the municipality is having, especially to the aged,” Lipudi said.
Palesa Mboweni, the secretary general at Mogale City Golden Oldies Club said, “We are so grateful to the Mayor for being supportive of us and listening to our call, and most importantly, being there when we need him”.
The partnership will see the Club members visit Maropeng regularly, with a view to extend the programmes to the Sterkfontein Caves, also in the Cradle of Humankind.
