Animal enthusiasts spread some ‘wuff’
Much-needed funds were raised when animal lovers and their dogs had the opportunity to enjoy a leisurely 3km walk on private land in Kromdraai together.
On Sunday, 11 February, a great many animal enthusiasts together with their furry friends shared some ‘wuff’ when they attended the 9th Day Rehabilitation and Rehoming Centre’s Valentine’s Walk.
In celebration of the day of love, these supporters showed they care ‘fur-real’ by contributing to this unique fundraising initiative. Much-needed funds were raised after animal lovers and their dogs had the opportunity to enjoy a leisurely 3km walk on private land in Kromdraai together.
After a refreshing walk in the crispest, freshest air any Sunday morning could offer, those interested had the chance to enjoy a scrumptious continental breakfast to end a morning well spent.
According to Charmaine Booysens, Founder of 9th Day, the shelter was on the verge of closing its doors last year.
“We rely on donations and support from corporates and the public. During December, we had to take a loan to pay off a R100 000 vet bill that we had accumulated. Thus we are looking for creative ways to raise funds which will help us keep our doors open,” she explained.
Charmaine and her team were thrilled when West Pack Lifestyle decided to provide support with some colourful heart-shaped clams placed at 500 metre intervals along the route. They were meant to be used as water bowls for the dogs, but the dogs had other ideas and ended up using the clams as paddling pools!
The money raised at the event will enable the shelter to provide quality vet care as well as the vaccination, deworming, microchipping and sterilisation of animals.
“Love and patience come standard, so the animals can learn to trust again with the aim of finding a forever home. Over the past year the 9th has been able to rehome approximately 320 animals,” she said.
With the help of the community she aims to ensure each and every animal has a bright and loving future. If you are interested in contributing in any way, feel free to contact the 9th Day Animal Shelter on 082 924 9337 or send an email to info@the9thday.co.za.
