An idea with immediate and lasting benefits to animals

An appeal is made to everyone to consider leaving a gift in their Wills.

Without a Will, everything that remains of your assets when you die, after debts and administrative costs have been subtracted, will be distributed in accordance with the Intestate Succession Act 81 of 1987.

This could result in someone receiving a portion of your assets which you may have preferred to donate to the SPCA.

Making a Will is not morbid or negative. It legally ensures that your wishes are carried out to reflect your values and beliefs, such as making provision for animals to be assisted.

The Roodepoort/ Krugersdorp SPCA is appealing to attorneys in the area to offer a service to the community: the drawing up of Wills at no cost to the individual during April 2018, in return for a donation to the SPCA.

Also take note that the value of the donation will qualify for tax relief in terms of a Section 18A certificate, which must be issued by the donee, and submitted to SARS.

An appeal is made to everyone to consider leaving a gift in their Wills, to benefit the Roodepoort/ Krugersdorp SPCA and enable them to prevent cruelty, to protect, rescue and care for animals long into the future.

No financial assistance from government has ever been received, not even to support its hospital. Lotto has also announced that it will no longer fund the SPCA.

• Being exact:

If the Roodepoort/ Krugersdorp SPCA is to be nominated as a beneficiary in a Will, it is important to state this specifically, by using the organisation’s legally registered name: SPCA Roodepoort Krugersdorp. It is wise to include their Non Profit Organisation Registration number, which is 002-020.

Every legacy contributes to enabling them to continue the fight against cruelty and provide humane education in the communities where it is most needed. Gifts in legacies help them to rescue, and give second chances to unwanted, neglected or abused pets, as well as enabling them to continue monitoring facilities where there are animals including abattoirs, hawking sites, pet shops, breeders, stable yards and security companies using dogs.

Every legacy is important to them – large and small – as they help to build a future where animals are treated with the care and respect they deserve.
