Police officers inspired by the love of elderly couple
"But this random event, and the gratitude of the couple was refreshing, and reminded me what our service in the police is all about."
Eighty-seven-year old devout Christian, Gerrie Marais, was just strolling through Key West Shopping Centre, hand-in-hand with his wife, Joha, both of them cooing like a pair of love-struck turtle doves.
Captain Hendrik Mohale, who trains police officers at the Krugersdorp Police station training centre, was following close behind. He was in awe of the two clearly still happily in love people in front of him, and when he caught up, he stepped up next to them and decided to talk to them.

South Africa could use a good dose of this – kindness that is not culturally, racially or mentally biased. Something like the newly formed friendship between two policeman and a couple of silver-haired senior citizens.
Mohale began to share Scripture with them, and the couple responded with friendly and caring attitudes.
After inviting them for coffee, Mohale and his colleague, Sergeant Jerry Mosadi, who had by this time joined the group, sat down at a restaurant and began chatting.
They spoke about life and loss, about the country and all that is good and shared many a great life stories.
