On arrival they found a dead adult rhino lying on its side. Examining the animal lead to the discovery of a bullet wound, which had caused its death.

“The reason for the killing of this animal is unknown, since its horn was intact”, said Constable Gloria Maswanganye, spokesperson for Hekpoort Police station.

However, they did not rule out the possibility of it being an attempted poaching incident.

“We will leave no stone unturned in making sure that the perpetrators of this senseless killing are brought to book.”

The police are appealing to members of community to come forward with information that may assist in the apprehension of the persons who heartlessly destroy our endangered species.
