Mmusi Maimane to address Krugersdorpers ahead of Youth Day

The Mayor conceded during the May council meeting that his party did not have a plan in place for the youth.

Mmusi Maimane, the DA’s national leader, will visit Mogale City tomorrow, 15 June and will focus on the DA’s positive vision for the youth.

Tyrone Gray, the Chief Whip for the Democratic Alliance (DA), has blamed the African National Congress (ANC) for abandoning the youth of Mogale City.

In response to the DA’s challenge, the Executive Mayor, Naga Patrick Lipudi, conceded during the May council meeting that his party did not have a plan in place for the youth.

He explained that the municipality was still waiting for national and provincial government to provide it with a Youth Strategy.

Gray contended that the shocking consequence of this was that less than three per cent of the 2018/ 2019 Operational Budget, which kicks in on 1 July, would benefit the youth of the city.

Gray, who himself falls within the Youth Demographic, is a member of the Finance Portfolio. He emphasised that the budget stifled innovation.

“If the ANC is unable to look after our youth, that shows that it is unable to develop our collective future. This painful reality must be faced just a few days before we celebrate Youth Day.”

Mmusi will be at the Centenary Hall in Krugersdorp CBD from 6pm to discuss change.
